A relatively recent addition to the family of gemstones, tourmaline is known as the "peace stone".  Heat creates an electrical charge in the stone that makes it attract dust.  It is a very popular gemstone that is found in a wide variety of intense colors with a hardness of 7.  Some believe the stone dispels fear and makes its wearer calm.
